What’s the first book you ever finished and still remember to this day?
Since, it is the graduation season, this book goes along with that theme. It is called “the graduate.” Written by Charles Webb in 1963. It examines the recent graduation of Benjamin Broddock. He has no idea what he wants to do with his life. He returns to his parents wealthy home in California and feels alienated, by their materialistic style and social circles. Benjamin enters a physical affair with Mrs. Robinson. Mrs. Robinson is his father’s business partner’s wife. Under extreme pressure, Benjamin agrees to go on a date with Elaine, Mrs. Robinson’s daughter. Benjamin falls for her. Mrs. Robinson finds out about her daughter seeing Benjamin and forbids her from seeing him. She exposes her affair with him and she is disgusted. She returns back to college. Benjamin tracks her down and is obsessed with winning her heart. He has to stop her from marrying another man, which he successfully does. Then, they escape on a bus together side by side, not sure if their next move. Thank you for reading. Have a great night. Fabulous book!
