What’s the first impression you want to give people?
Introduction-Today I will discuss what first impression I want to give to people.
I do not look that competent because I am disabled. I walk with a gimp and my left arm does not function like my right arm. What I hope is that people hear me speak because then they can make an assessment that I am not developmentally delayed and that is golden when that happens. There is nothing wrong with being developmentally delayed, it is just that I am not developmentally delayed. I was not born with this disability. I was made this way by being shot in the head with a gun.
First impressions are always important. It lets people decide whether this person is competent, or capable, can help them and listen to them. Also the strengths of the person. Also it helps to dress successfully. Be honest, good eye contact, pay attention to just them and that gives them a really clear sense of the impression I want to give them. Make them the center of the universe. Then I give them the best impression.
Final thoughts- when people see me walking they usually presume this person is developmentally delayed. As soon as I open my mouth, then they hopefully presume I am smarter than I look. First impressions are everything if I can start holding a conversation with them they will not assume I am developmentally delayed. There is nothing wrong with being developmentally delayed, it is just that I am not developmentally delayed. So if I can validate to the person that I am listening to them and I genuinely care about them. They won’t assume I am developmentally delayed and I will leave a good impression on the person. Thank you for reading.
